Dr. Sylvia Earle: 2017 Lewis Thomas Prize

On March 6th I was fortunate to be able to attend the 2017 Lewis Thomas Prize For Writing About Science presentation and lecture by Dr. Sylvia Earle. Her lecture was engaging as always and she is such an inspiration of mine. The incredible list of her achievements in science, engineering, conservation, and advocacy is unparalleled. Despite being fully aware of the many challenges facing our oceans, Dr. Earle retains an optimism and enthusiasm for marine conservation that electrifies everyone around her. This was a fantastic evening and I am so happy to have been able to attend.

If you are unfamiliar with Dr. Earle, I strongly encourage you to visit her alliance “Mission Blue” to learn about her work and her support for the establishment of a network of MPAs (Marine Protected Areas). She is also responsible for a documentary on Netflix titled Mission Blue. Mission Blue Website

That moment when you meet one of your role models. Thank you for paving the way for women in marine science.
